The Blackrock Health Innovation Awards will be held on Friday March 3rd 2023.

The Innovation Awards are a priority for Blackrock Health as innovation is regarded as an essential component within the strategic development of the group, and is one of our core values.

Our people are our greatest asset and these Awards give a platform to recognised innovation contributions that are made by individuals and teams. They also enable us to celebrate success and thank our winners.

The Awards will reinforce our commitment to innovation and establish the group as a future-focused and dynamic place to work; always evolving and improving for our patients.

The awards are open to all our people, whether full-time, part-time, permenant or contract, across all locations – Blackrock Clinic, Galway Clinic, Hermitage Clinic, Limerick Clinic and group.

Award Categories

The Outstanding Innovation – Clinical Area award will be given to an individual or team in a clinical area who demonstrates an innovative way of thinking in line with Blackrock Health’s Core Values. The award recognises the efforts of an innovative new or improved process or
initiative with a demonstrated improvement in the quality and safety of patient care. The results must be measurable and show positive outcomes. Either an individual or a team may be nominated for this award. A team is comprised of three or more team members, including the Team Leader and can be cross functional or work-unit based, but within a clinical area. If nominating a team, one person on the team must be designate as Team Leader.

The Outstanding Innovation – Non-Clinical Area award will be given to an individual or team in a nonclinical area who demonstrates an innovative way of thinking in line with Blackrock Health’s Core Values. The award recognises the efforts of an innovative new or improved process, program or initiative with a demonstrated improvement in quality, service, financial operations and/or safety. The results must be measurable and show positive outcomes. Either an individual or a team may be nominated for this award. A team is comprised of three or more team members, including the Team Leader and can be cross functional or work unit based, but within a non-clinical area. If nominating a team, one person on the team must be designate as Team Leader.

The Outstanding Innovation Carried out by a Team award will be given to a team whose efforts demonstrated an innovative way of thinking in line with Blackrock Health’s Core Values The award recognises the teams use of innovation in supporting the patient and staff experience, across the group. This team must have collaborated towards a common goal which contributed to the success of the organisation. A team is comprised of three or more team members, including the Team Leader and may be cross functional or work unit based working collaboratively in the same or different disciplines. One person on the team must be designated as Team Leader.

The Outstanding Quality Improvement through Innovation award will be given to an individual or team whose innovative efforts supported Blackrock Health Core Values. This individual / team must have collaborated towards a common quality improvement goal which contributed to the success of the group. The award recognises a person or team whose innovative quality improvement has improved patient / staff safety and quality of service
Either an individual or a team may be nominated for this award. A team is comprised of three or more team members, including the Team Leader and may be cross functional or work unit based working collaboratively in the same or different disciplines. If nominating a team, one person on the team must be designate as Team Leader.

The Excellence in Leadership through Innovation award is given to an individual who has displayed leadership using innovation which has created valuable and positive change within the group.

This leader inspires their colleagues to achieve excellence by being a role model, motivating, encouraging, and embracing change and innovation in their workplace.

This leader should by example encourage their colleagues to work to the highest level in line with Blackrock Health Core Values.

The Innovative Award to a New Star Staff Member will be given to an individual who has joined the organisation within the last 18 months, who has delivered outstanding work above and beyond the call of duty. Has embraced and assisted in the implementation of innovative ideas to ensure exemplarily patient experience and staff wellbeing.

We are looking for new joiners who in a short time have become an inspiration to others in their commitment to what they do each day, while setting high standards and performance delivery.

The Innovative Award to a Long Serving Staff Member will be given to an individual who has worked in the organisation for 10 years or more., who has consistently delivered outstanding work above and beyond the call of duty. Has embraced and assisted in the implementation of innovative ideas to ensure exemplarily patient experience and staff wellbeing.

We are looking for a long serving staff member who has been an inspiration to others in their commitment to what they do each day, while setting high standards and performance delivery.

The Commitment to Research award will be given to the individual or team who have embarked on research leading to further excellence in clinical and non-clinical areas. While clinical excellence is synonymous with the care received at Blackrock Health, there is also a need to develop new approaches and systems to our patients, especially those with conditions of unmet medical need. This award will be given to an individual or team who have made a substantive contribution to research within the group. The award recognises a person or team whose research and findings have improved patient care and experience / staff safety / system improvement.

Either an individual or a team may be nominated for this award. A team is comprised of three or more team members, including the Team Leader and may be cross functional or work unit based working collaboratively in the same or different disciplines. One person on the team must be designated as Team Leader. Nominees must provide evidence and/or examples of living the behaviours.

The Increased Sustainability through Innovation award will be given to an individual or team who has shown commitment to addressing and reducing the environmental impact of the services we provide in order to safeguard out communities. The award recognises a person or team who through education/actions are supporting Blackrock Health’s core value of sustainability.

Either an individual or a team may be nominated for this award. A team is comprised of three or more team members, including the Team Leader and may be cross functional or work unit based working collaboratively in the same or different disciplines. One person on the team must be designated as Team Leader. Nominees must provide evidence and/or examples of the reduction in environmental impact.

Innovation Awards – Sample Judging Criteria

Example… Outstanding Innovation in a Clinical Area

 Relevance: How the innovation addressed the need for the new/ reviewed process
/program /initiative.
 Effectiveness: How the outcomes related to quality, service, financial operations and/or
safety
 Innovation: How was creativity and innovation demonstrated
 Transferability: Describe how this innovation can be transferred, implemented or applied
to other departments group wide.

About Us

The Blackrock Health Innovation Awards Ceremony will be held on Friday 3rd March 2023

The evening starts at 6:30pm with a drinks reception and finishes at 2am.

Don’t forget to bring those dancing shoes. Dress for the event is ‘smart’ (lounge suits  – not black tie) and cocktail wear.

The Awards Dinner provides the perfect opportunity to informally meet and network with colleagues driving improvements in patient safety, patient care and service quality across Blackrock Heath System and have a good night out!

Discounted rooms will be available for those who want to stay over at Barberstown Castle Hotel.
